Darling: Expect Ramirez at his best with White Sox

Newly acquired DH Manny Ramirez(notes) is scheduled to make his White Sox debut Wednesday at Cleveland. And one former player turned analyst is confident that the fit is ideal.

Ramirez was acquired on waivers from the Dodgers on Monday, a day after his career with Los Angeles came to an unceremonious end. Pinch hitting in the sixth inning Sunday, Ramirez was ejected for arguing a strike call on the first pitch he faced. Amid the trade rumors, Ramirez didn't start any of his final four games with LA.

scenery and a return to the American League will bring out the best in Ramirez in the final five weeks of the regular season—and perhaps the postseason. After being dealt from the Red Sox to the Dodgers late in the 2008 season, a revitalized Ramirez hit .396 with 17 homers and 53 RBIs in 53 games and helped lead the team to the NLCS.
The White Sox are four games behind the AL Central-leading Twins and 10 games back in the AL wild-card chase.
As always, Ramirez's mood will be closely monitored. He seemingly wore out his welcome in Boston and Los Angeles, and his personality could clash with Guillen's in Chicago.
Again, however, Darling is optimistic. "Coupling Ozzie Guillen, the talented manager of the White Sox and Manny Ramirez, the enigmatic slugger, appears to be a match made in heaven," Darling said.

Interestingly, Ramirez's first two series with Chicago will come against two of his former teams. Following Wednesday's game in Cleveland, the White Sox will begin a weekend series at Boston on Friday.
